The Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has directed all Muslims in the territory to observe the Eid prayers at home.

Malam Bello told them to keep off the praying grounds in compliance with government’s directives and experts’ advice on coronavirus.

The Minister made this remark in Abuja on Friday, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye.

“The FCT Administration hereby informs residents of the FCT especially Muslim faithful that following the statement by the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, regarding the suspension of the Eid Congregational prayers in towns and cities across the Federation, this year’s Eid-al Fitr prayers will not hold on Eid-grounds across the FCT.

“That statement equally urged Muslims to observe the Eid prayers at home with family members or in the case of an individual living alone.

“This is in tandem with the guidelines, issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, that all places of worship in the FCT and other high-risk states of the Federation remain closed during the recent extended period of lockdown.

“To achieve this objective of enforcing these guidelines, meetings were held earlier between the Administration and leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the League of FCT Imams.

“The FCT Administration, therefore, calls for support and understanding of all residents as efforts are being made to curtail and eventually end the spread of the COVID-19 in the Territory,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that another 339 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours, bringing to 7,016 the number of confirmed cases in the country as of Thursday night.
