Winning Wisdom: Glorify God
Topic: Glorify God [Sunday, 4th June 2017]
And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day. Luke 5:26
Throughout the lifetime of Jesus, the reaction for the miracles He did was that “they glorified God” (Matthew 9:8; Luke 5:25; Luke 18:43). This shows that for whatever signs or miracles God wrought through us, the Glory should go to Him, not us. Now when we do things and expect people to commend us, we’re taking away the focus (God), and placing it on ourselves. It’s not wrong to receive compliments and appreciation, but when we do all we do just for the compliments and recognition, forgetting the one who should receive all the glory, we begin to glorify ourselves over God.
After conducting a miracle in Lystra, the people were amazed and called Barnabas and Paul God’s who had come in human form. They wanted to offer sacrifices to them, but immediately Barnabas and Paul were aware of this, they quickly ret their clothes and corrected the impressions of these men (Acts 14:10-18). This is a classic example of men who had done great wonders, and on the face of things deserved such commendation. But they knew better that glory should go to God, so they refused to take God’s glory.
Christ always emphasized glorifying the Father for things done. He said “whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13). Keep glorifying the Father with your good works, and He’ll glorify you like He did Christ “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5).
Keep winning daily.
Father thank You for the wonderful works You’re doing through me. Help me to always give You the glory, as You deserve it all. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
